Description: Recall: 1996 Mercury Villager Component: EQUIPMENT:ELECTRIC POWER ACCESSORIES:WINDOWS NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 96V155000 Manufacturer: FORD MOTOR COMPANY Potential Number of Units Affected: 103900Summary: These vehicles were produced with power windows that can be closed after the ignition key is turned to the "off" position and the right front (passenger) door is opened. This does not comply with FMVSS No. 118, "Power-operated Window Systems." The standard requires that power operated windows may be closed "only during the time interval between the time the locking device which controls the activation of the vehicle''s engine is turned off and the opening of either of a two door vehicle''s doors, or in the case of a vehicle with more than two doors, the opening of either of its front doors. See Safety Recall Campaign 98V012. NHTSA has denied the manufacturer''s request for a determination that this matter is inconsequential with respect to motor vehicle safety. The manufacturer is obligated to conduct an owner notification and remedy campaign. This campaign has been superseded by Safety Recall Campaign 98V012.
