The strange case of the missing radio antenna – Your Accord has an audio system, and the radio works just fine, but where in the world has the antenna gone? In new Accords, the radio antenna is imbedded in the rear window.
Why, you ask? Well, an antenna makes more noise than most folks realize, whistling and whooshing along in the wind. By placing the antenna in the window, the noise vanishes along with the metal mast.
Also, an antenna is just asking for trouble when you roll through a car wash or drive under low-hanging branches. With the antenna in the window, there is less chance of it ending up mangled
or missing.
Double-strength bumpers – Although the federal government only requires bumpers that can withstand a 2.5 mile-per-hour impact without damage, Honda didn’t think that was quite enough protection. So, to improve matters, your Accord has bumpers that are twice as strong as Washington requires. And that means a low-speed encounter with another car, a fire hydrant or a parking garage wall might do nothing more than bruise your ego.
Hidden roof-rack mounts – As you’ll notice, the Accord doesn’t have the traditional "drip rails" along the roof that cars once had. Which begs the question, how do I attach a ski/bike/luggage rack if there is nothing to clamp it to? Not to worry because as usual these guys have thought of everything.
If you look at the roof, you’ll notice two strips (either black or body color, depending on the model you have) that run the length of the top. These flexible plastic strips can be peeled back to reveal tracks that will accommodate a wide variety or roof racks and carrying devices. It’s a very nice detail that actually works better than drip rails.
The dancing windshield wipers – Your Accord has windshield wipers with three settings; intermittent, normal,and fast. On the intermittent setting, the wipers will pause a moment between each swipe of the glass. And within that intermittent setting, you can adjust the pause to be longer or shorter, depending on what Mother Nature is up to.
But as you may have noticed, in the quickest intermittent setting, the wipers will start to pick up the tempo as you pick up speed. In fact, once you reach 12 miles-per-hour, the wipers will be clicking along at a constant speed – with no pause between strokes.
Drop below 12 mph, and the wipers will slow down and start pausing between swipes, which keeps the rubber blades from dragging across dry glass. A very nice feature indeed. |
