The dancing windshield wipers &150;
Your Explorer has windshield wipers with three settings; intermittent, normal,
and fast. On the intermittent setting, the wipers will pause for a moment between
each swipe of the glass. But as you may have noticed, the wipers will start to pick up the tempo as you pick up speed.
In fact, by the time you reach 65
miles-per-hour, the wipers will be clicking along twice as fast as when you were sitting
at a stop light. And you don&146;t have to touch a thing, because the intermittent
setting is completely automatic.
Auto-on/off headlights &150; You pull up to a parking spot at night, turn off the engine, shut off the lights, lock the doors and start walking away. Except that the headlights are still on. What gives? Your Explorer is equipped with auto on/off headlights, called Autolamps.
That means they can be set to come on automatically when it begins to get dark outside and then stay on for up to three minutes after you turn off the vehicle. A vertical rotary switch next
to the headlights allows you turn on the automatic system and adjust the amount of time the lights stay on after the engine is turned off.
As mentioned, you can adjust them to stay on for any time frame ranging from a few seconds to three minutes. You can also turn the system off and use the manual on/off switch, which means the headlights will go out when you turn them off, but they won&146;t come on automatically at night either.
With the Autolamps feature switched on, the headlights stay on to give you illumination while you&146;re walking away from the Explorer at night. For many drivers, this feature provides a feeling of security, and it makes it easier to see where you&146;re walking.
