Description: Inside+Out: The 1999 Toyota Camry interior features Buttons, Dials, Handles And Other Surprises In The Interior The recirculate setting &150; Also known as "the ventilation mode with the little U-Turn sign on it." Slide the lever on the ventilation system to your left, and the Camry will stop drawing in outside air and simply recirculate the air that&146;s already inside the cabin. This way, if you&146;re driving behind a diesel truck, or rolling past a recently fertilized cornfield, you can keep the nasty stuff outside. Also, on seriously hot days, the recirculation button will help the air conditioning cool the car faster because it keeps hot outside air from diluting the cool air from the air conditioner. But a word of warning: if you leave the lever in the recirculate mode for long &150; say a half hour or more &150;the car could get stuffy and you might start to get drowsy. In other words, you don&146;t want to drive around on recirculate mode all the time. The auxiliary power outlet &150; Car phones, portable computers, radar detectors and a whole laundry list of other electronic gadgets are turning up in people&146;s cars. So, to deal with this litany of high-tech accessories, Toyota has equipped your Camry with a power source designed specifically for these items. At the very base of your center console, below the cigarette lighter and in front of the transmission shifter, is a square plug that conceals a power outlet. It&146;s easy to over look this hidden feature and plug your cell phone into the cigarette lighter. Problem is, your accessories may need more electricity than the lighter is designed to provide, and you could eventually blow a fuse &150; which in turn could disable other electric features in the interior. Therefore, it&146;s best to always use the auxiliary power outlet when it&146;s time to get plugged in and powered up. Door locks that won&146;t lock &150; As a service to forgetful drivers, valet parkers and car-wash attendents, the Camry will refuse to lock its doors if the key is in the ignition and the door is open. Press the power lock switch with the key in place, and the door locks spring back to the open position. This way, if someone closes a door or tries to lock the vehicle, your Camry won&146;t trap its own keys in the car. After you&146;ve seen this feature in action you&146;ll realize that every car on earth should have it. Sure is quiet in here The Camry is known as one of the quietest cars you can buy this side of $40,000. Smooth road, rough road, 30 mph or 70, this car remains hushed. Although there are numerous reasons for the serene ambiance inside, a second set of door seals help. If you look along the lower edge of an opened door, a few inches up, you&146;ll find a thick rubber strip that keeps road noise and tire rumble from entering the cabin. Look at the rear door, and you&146;ll find that the seal curves up to provide a noise barrier between the rear tire and the rear seat &150; seeing that the tire is so close to the rear passenger&146;s ears. As a result, the clatter and roar of the pavement gets stopped at the door and stays outside. Where it belongs. Why does it do that? Child-proof rear door locks &150; This safety feature could also be called "adult-proof" rear door locks because it&146;s pretty easy to forget how they work. The Camry&146;s inside rear door handles can be disabled so curious little hands can&146;t open a door while the car is in motion. This also means that adult hands can&146;t open the rear doors from inside the car either. If you find yourself in this situation, it&146;s easy to correct. Just open the rear door and look at the inside rear edge of the door its self. You&146;ll find a round black plug and a switch that allows you to either activate or de-activate the inner door handles. Flip the switch foward and the doors will again open from inside the car. The hazy windshield &150; Do you notice that after a few days your windshield seems to accumulate a permanent fog? Don&146;t despair. Your new Camry isn&146;t a portable low pressure system. Rather, the new plastics, vinyls and leathers are all "sweating" a bit when the car sits in the sun. You&146;ll find this "fog" wipes off easily, and after a while, the car won&146;t fog up its own windows any longer. So, why does this happen? Your new Camry has interior materials that are treated to resist fading and cracking when exposed to super hot weather. And when the car gets hot, some of this treatment is released into the air and collects on the windows. It&146;s no big deal. |
