Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the new GMC Canyon built, when does it go on sale and what will its pricing be?
Canyon prices start at $16, 530 for the SL 2WD Regular Cab, or $18, 875 for the SL 2WD Extended Cab; The SLE 2WD Crew Cab is $21, 115; and the SLE 4WD Crew Cab $23, 725.All prices include a $635 destination charge. Canyon is made on the same assembly line as its counterpart, the Chevy Colorado, at GM's Shrevesport, Louisiana.
How about options?
Canyon's options include heated leather seats, an electrochromic rearview mirror with a compass and ambient temperature gauge, an in-dash CD player, OnStar, and XM Satellite Radio. Also available is a driver information center that communicates vital information, such as remaining oil life. Exterior add-ons available for a bit more flair include tubular steps, finished in either anodized aluminum or stainless steel; tailgate edge molding; a bed extender; and a vinyl tonneau cover, framed with aluminum.
What are its best features?
Most appealing about this all-new midsized pickup is the combination of new engines and transmissions; enhanced safety features and cabin quietness; and a wide array of cab and suspension configurations. GM claims its Canyon is "segment leading", with the most horsepower in its class in its base engine; exclusive head curtain airbags; the most interior volume on regular and crew cabs; the largest bed volume; an exclusive dual-position locking tailgate; and the most tie-downs.
How many different versions does the Colorado come in?
Canyon comes in three cab styles, two trim levels, with two drive lines, two engines (I5 and I4), two transmissions, and three suspensions, as well as a 2wd Crew Cab.
Any complaints?
Our ride and drive in the new Canyon and its counterpart, the Colorado, was limited to on road driving, although some of our drive route included dirt roads. We were disappointed that we did not have the opportunity to drive it over a 4WD track. We found its overall handling to be capable, its ride well-cushioned, and its power ample. Our only complaint was some tire squeal evident with tight corners, even when taken a fairly slow speed.
