Description: Following the debuts of several key vehicles in Frankfurt, Detroit and Geneva, Audi of America held a low-key press briefing at the 2004 New York International Auto Show. 2005 Audi A6 Hot on the heels of its international debut in Geneva, the 2005 Audi A6 was shown in North America for the first time. Arriving in dealer showrooms this November, the redesigned A6 is available with 3.2 or 4.2 nomenclature affixed to the rear decklid. With a 255-horsepower, 3.2-liter V6 underhood, the 2005 Audi A6 3.2 will be priced from the low $40,000 range, including Quattro all-wheel drive as standard equipment. Showcasing Audi's new design language, the 2005 A6 sports a three-inch wheelbase stretch to make the cabin significantly more accommodating. Rich leather, real aluminum and lustrous wood trimmings "raise the bar in its class," according to Audi Vice President Alex Mees. With a fresh face, standard all-wheel drive, lush interior appointments and engines that can match the competition pony for pony, it looks like the Audi A6 is finally ready for prime time. 2005 Audi A8 4.2 What's the big deal, you ask? Notice that the name of this car is missing an "L." That's right - a short-wheelbase version of the Audi A8 4.2 arrives this fall and is expected to cost about $67,000 dollars. As if that weren't titillating enough, for the first time the German automaker is offering Audi Exclusive Interiors to A8 customers. Already among the best in the business when it comes to outfitting a car's cabin with rich, attractive, luxurious materials, Audi's Exclusive Interiors feature supple Valcona leather seats in three special colors: Classic Red, Cognac, and Aniseed (a creamy yellow - maybe Phlegm would have been more accurately descriptive). Black piping accents the seat upholstery for extra special zip. Wood trim is color-coordinated with the selected hue of leather, available with or without inlays for added glamour. Other Audi Exclusive Interior features include a wood-and-leather steering wheel, a wood shift knob, and a color-coordinated headliner. Cars equipped with Audi Exclusive Interiors aren't quite bespoke, but this is an improvement over what BMW, Lexus and Mercedes-Benz are willing to do when it comes to helping customers tailor their vehicles to personal tastes. Audi RSQ Sports Coupe Concept "Audi raises product placement to a new level," says the headline on the press release for the decidedly funky RSQ Sports Coupe concept. In other words, if you go to see Will Smith's futuristic thriller "i, ROBOT" this summer, you're getting treated to an Audi advertisement disguised as a motion picture. Audi built the RSQ Sports Coupe concept specifically for the movie, which is set in 2035, giving the company the opportunity to get everyone used to it's new single-frame grille - a design element that debuted on the 2005 Audi A8 L 6.0 and serves as the face for the new 2005 Audi A6. With a mid-engine design, the Audi RSQ Sports Coupe concept races through tomorrow's Chicago on spheres instead of wheels, helping Smith's homicide detective character solve a mystery that threatens the human race. This is not the first time that Audi automobiles have been featured on film. Audi is actively engaged in featuring its cars in the movies, but Tim Miksche, the man responsible for product placement at Audi, assures: "We don't go for just any project." Perhaps most successfully, an Audi S8 played a key role in "Ronin" during one of the most famous chase scenes of all time, and an A4 served as Russell Crowe's lead character's ride in "The Insider." Oh, and who could forget the cute TT Convertible in "Legally Blonde 2!" Not exactly the way to avoid a "chick car" label, there, Tim. 2004 Auto Show Gallery More Show Photos... d |
