Description: --Users of Microsoft CarSource, a comprehensive online guide for new car and truck shoppers, will soon be able to submit a purchase request for a new vehicle via the Autobytel.com system. The agreement in principle between Autobytel.com and Microsoft was announced at the NADA Show (National Automobile Dealers Association) today. It promises to bring together the plethora of information offered by Microsoft's innovative automotive program, CarSource, and Autobytel.com's revolutionary online automotive purchasing program. CarSource puts a wealth of new car and truck information at the fingertips of subscribers to MSN, The Microsoft Network. This inventive automotive program provides users with facts on nearly every model of new car and truck sold in the United States--more than 900 models--including retail price, specifications, safety features, fuel efficiency, repair and maintenance costs, and available options. Users can even perform competitive analysis between multiple models. CarSource empowers users with the information they need to make informed automotive purchasing decisions. Autobytel.com then lets them put their knowledge to use to purchase a vehicle at the lowest cost available. "Autobytel.com's philosophy of encouraging users to become as educated as possible before making an automotive purchase makes their program a great fit with CarSource," says Mark Hickling, Editor of CarSource. "By incorporating Autobytel.com into CarSource, we'll give our users a one-stop shopping solution for their automotive purchases," Hickling concludes. Autobytel.com assists clients in purchasing cars and trucks via a large subscribing dealer network that is dedicated to providing extremely competitive prices to the U.S. consumer (Autobytel.com Canada will open in March 1996). Before a consumer can submit a purchase request, he or she is encouraged to thoroughly research their vehicle of choice, using innovative programs like CarSource, and then submit a request to Autobytel.com. The request is sent to one of Autobytel.com's 1,200+ subscribing dealers who follows up with a price quote within forty-eight hours. The program costs the consumer absolutely nothing and can save him thousands of dollars. Autobytel.com generated over 65,000 new vehicle purchase requests during its first ten months of operation, and, at the current travel rate, will process over 200,000 purchase requests in 1996. "We are thrilled to be working with Microsoft CarSource," says Pete Ellis, Autobytel.com President, "and believe this relationship has the potential to significantly increase our business." Currently, Autobytel.com can be accessed via the Internet at They have additional special programs inside CompuServe, Prodigy and America Online.
