Description: San Francisco, CA-February 7, 1999 Autobytel.com inc., the premier Internet car-buying service, today announced it has committed both resources and funds to the future of online automobile marketing with a contribution to Northwood University, the school of choice among automotive industry professionals. Autobytel.com is initiating the interactive classroom fund with $10,000 and is rallying its 2,700 Accredited Dealers during the NADA convention to help raise the remaining funds for Northwood University. The contribution to Northwood University is two-fold. First, Autobytel.com is establishing a fund to assist Northwood University in upgrading and enhancing its interactive classroom equipment. Expected to cost a total of $150,000, these enhancements will enable students from all three Northwood campuses to take part in university-wide courses taught via computer. In addition, Autobytel.com will establish a lecture series for the school's Automotive Marketing department featuring speakers who are considered industry experts in Internet marketing. "As the inventor of online automobile marketing, Autobytel.com believes in the future of this industry. There is no doubt that this industry presents profound implications for both the consumer and the dealer," said Mark W. Lorimer, President and CEO of autobytel.com inc. "Autobytel.com is not using the Internet to conduct business the traditional way and we want the next generation of automotive executives to be well educated on how and why the online car selling model works." Lorimer went on to say that Autobytel.com chose to make this announcement at NADA to make it clear that rather than spending dollars on attention-grabbing gimmicks, Autobytel.com is investing its money constructively in the future of the industry. "Northwood considers Autobytel.com to be a leader in online automotive marketing," said David E. Fry, President and CEO of Northwood University. "We are thrilled to establish a relationship with Autobytel.com that lets us tap into their deep knowledge of online sales and marketing with this new and important lecture series. The donation drive promises to generate the necessary funds to build the 'bridge' our interactive classroom needs, enabling students from all three campuses to learn from the 'best of the best' who teach the core Northwood classes." In 1963, the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) selected Northwood University as the college to develop the only collegiate degree program in Automotive Marketing. Today, in active cooperation with automobile retail firms and manufacturers, Northwood continues to prepare their students for interesting and challenging careers in all aspects of automobile distribution, sales and services. The establishment of the fund coincides with the NADA convention in San Francisco, CA, because it is here that Autobytel.com will meet with its Accredited Dealers to announce the drive. Simultaneously, Northwood will announce Autobytel.com's contribution at its breakfast meeting on February 7 at the convention.About Northwood University Northwood University is a private, accredited institution specializing in managerial and entrepreneurial education offering two and four year degrees in a variety of enterprise fields.
