Description: Buried deep within the psychology of why people buy the cars they do, deeper than color and look, price or features, is a kernel of a reason that motivates, prioritizes and, eventually, decides. That one. The blue sedan. I want that one. Don't know why for sure, it just feels right. Despite billions of dollars spent in studies and focus groups, automakers have yet to figure out the formula for that little bit of buyer subconscious. They get lucky sometimes. Cars like this don't come around too often. Imagine if Honda had it figured out. Then everybody would own an Accord. There's really no logical reason not to, except for its image as being the ultra sensible car that's dependable, the smart buy that smacks people as a bit, well, too sensible. And maybe that's really not too logical. Fact is, no one ever got into an argument over a Honda. And except for the street racers out there, no one ever sang a song about a Honda Accord. That may change with this new one. Honda could be on their way to capturing imagination and building a car around it. There are quite a few things people can argue about when it comes to the new Accord. First, the look - it's sleek and upscale to some, while others slam it as a weak attempt at sexy. Then there's the center console, the "one knob" treatment. Some think of it as an over-thought piece of gadgetry, a frivolous and fruitless attempt to be clever. You can't reinvent the volume control, after all, so please don't try. Others think it looks cool and works quite nicely. Honda Accord, continued |
