Irvine, CA – January 27, 1998 – After calculating the results, advertising pundits are not likely to question Autobytel.com’s participation in the Super Bowl of advertising yesterday. In fact, just as the company has revolutionized the automotive industry, Autobytel.com can also take credit for revolutionizing Super Bowl advertising as the sole advertiser to air a commercial designed specifically to achieve immediate results.

"The numbers are incredible," said Pete Ellis, President and CEO of Autobytel.com and the marketing mind behind the move to spend $1.3 million on the 30-second Super Bowl spot. "Within minutes after the commercial aired, we were tracking a 1,700% increase in website traffic and an amazing 93% increase in Purchase Requests for new and used cars."

Last year, Autobytel.com, the premier online car-buying program, made history as the first Internet-based company to advertise on a Super Bowl and this year the company came back stronger than ever. The spot, entitled "Come As You Are" aired during the latter part of the second quarter and showed a pajama-clad woman submitting her Purchase Request on the Internet and sailing through cyberspace to pick up her new vehicle which was also financed through Autobytel.com Acceptance Corporation. The message that low-cost car buying is quick and easy worked—not only was there a huge increase in Purchase Requests, but the use of Autobytel.com’s financing company also notably increased.

"We were the first Internet-based company to realize that mainstream media is a great way to reach Internet consumers," commented Ellis. "Apparently, other high-tech companies took note and, this year, many used the Super Bowl to brand their products and services. With the kind of results Autobytel.com received after its commercial ran, it’s obvious technology is making a major impact on society and its influence is probably greater than most imagine."

Continuing its quest to reach the largest audience possible, Autobytel.com is already committed to run its Super Bowl commercial on network and cable television, including ABC, CBS, NBC, ESPN, ESPN2 and FX.
