Description: They usually have a surprise, and this year was no exception for Infiniti. While most press in attendance were expecting the debut of the QX56 -- and, indeed, many had already driven the vehicle -- they weren't expecting the other debut: 2004 QX56 -- Infiniti unveiled its all-new Q56, its first full-size luxury SUV, and the first Infiniti vehicle to be built in North America, at its new Canton, Mississippi assembly plant. Seating seven or eight passengers, the QX56 is meant to haul - its towing capacity is a hefty 8900-lbs. The 5.6-liter V8 is a version of Nissan's new Endurance engine that serves the new Titan pickup and Pathfinder Armada SUV. Power is rated at 315-hp. and 390-lb.-ft. of torque. A 5-speed automatic transmission backs the 5.6, and power is sent to all four independently suspended corners. Infiniti uses the Nissan Pathfinder Armada as a template, but adds luxury features to their upscale version. The horizontally-barred grille is distinctly Infiniti, as are the jewel-like headlights. Standard interior equipment includes a DVD-based navigation system, a 6-disc 10-speaker stereo system, dual-zone climate controls with rear AC, a vehicle immobilizer, and 18-in. wheels and tires. Airbags appear in the front, the sides of the front seats, and along the roof of all three rows. 2004 G35X -- Also taking the Infiniti stand was the new G35X, a sedan version of the sporty G35 coupe, now with all-wheel drive. This new model went on sale last month, starting at $31,900, and marries the G35's sporty performance to Infiniti's "intelligent" ATTESA (active torque distribution) system that provides it all-weather capability. 2004 Auto Show Gallery More Show Photos... d |
