Walk away from the sport shirts, books and cds. For heaven's sake, set down the dress socks, turn around and escape from that mega-super department store. That's no way to shop for Christmas. There are better things out there, gifts with more flair and imagination. Like maybe...a car. Don't laugh. With automakers making a run for sales as the year closes out, there are plenty of rebates on quality vehicles -- and the selection, with some 2003 models remaining and dealers gearing up for 2004, is good. We've put together a few great deals that are scheduled to expite on December 31. If you are in the market to purchase a new car, this may your best chance to get a good deal. And imagine the look on that special-someone's face when they unwrap their present! Chevrolet The bow-tie division of General Motors is offering great discounts on almost everything. The Cavalier, which is nearing the end of its production run, offers $4,500 off or 0% for its 2003 model. The 2004 model has a $4,000 rebate, excluding the special value package. You can get $2,000 off or 0% financing on a 2003 Corvette, and $3,000 - $5,000 off a 2003 Chevrolet Malibu. Why such great deals? In 2004 and 2005, these vehicles will no longer be offered, or will have undergone major changes. The Cavalier is ending its production run, to be replaced by the soon-to-be announced Cobalt. The Malibu received a complete makeover for 2004, and the new 2005 Corvette will be introduced during January's North American International Auto Show. Chrysler Perhaps the best deal of all belongs to the Pacifica -- a new vehicle that is already discounted by $3,000 or 0% financing for up to five years. Ford How about landing the Mustang Cobra you've always wanted? Now you can get it with a $4,000 discount, or 0% -- thanks to the imminent arrival of the 2005 Mustang. Infiniti Though Infiniti is not offering rebates, they do have attractive financing packages of 1.9% and 2.9% for two of the more popular vehicles on the road: the FX45 crossover and the G35. Nissan Nissan is offering rebates on the 2003 Xterra of up to $2,500 and finance offers of 0.9% through five years. Nissan is also discounted the specialty 2004 Nissan Sentra SE-R & Spec-V -- $2,000 off or 0.9%. See. A new car does make sense. But it's not all about getting a rebate -- you also want to be sure you find the right car for your needs. That includes cargo space, looks, durability and fuel efficiency. If you're not in the market for a new car, consider purchasing a day or two at a racing school. It's an experience sure to be cherished forever. To the left, we've highlighted Danny McKeever's Fast Lane Racing School in Willow Springs, California. It's one of the best schools available, and convenient to most central and southern California residents. If you're located elsewhere, pick up a car-enthusiast magazine for a racing school near you. |
