Ask the editor... You'd never be able to tell that Jaguar is a member of the Ford family. For the most part, the look and feel of a Jaguar vehicle has been uncompromised. Indeed, Ford's influence on the luxury automaker is felt mostly on the quality side: where Jaguars were once thought of as nice but unreliable, Ford has managed to turn that perception around. The success of the 2002 X-Type, a moderately-priced luxury car, is testimony to Ford's positive influence. For 2003, Jaguar will release an improved the S-Type, along with enhancements to the XK8 and XKR. The big news will come in 2004, with the introduction of the XJ saloon, Jaguar's new flagship.   Jaguar S-Type   MSRP Range: $41,850 - $61,755 The S-Type gets redesigned for 2003. Changes include a 4.2-liter V8, 400 horsepower S-TYPE R and a new five-speed manual transmission for the 3.0-liter V6 model. All models feature a completely redesigned interior with optional touch-screen display and an enhanced occupant safety system. There's also an all-new front suspension and revised rear suspension that engineers hope will deliver improved ride comfort and handling.    Jaguar X-Type   MSRP Range: $29,305 - $36,305 No significant changes are planned for 2003.    Jaguar XJ   MSRP Range: $56,330 - $78,030 No significant changes are planned for 2003, in anticipation of an all-new XJ to debut in 2004.    Jaguar XK   MSRP Range: $69,330 - $97,330 The 2003 XK has been revised with subtle styling changes and a larger, more powerful 4.2-litre V8 engine and a six-speed automatic transmission. Other changes include enhanced electronic and other safety, comfort and drivability changes.  |
