Description: Cupholder Survey Results (rounded up to the tenth decimal place) 1. How often do you use your cupholder? Pretty much ever day = 45.9% Regularly - at least 2-4 times a week = 24.5% Only occassionally = 20.4% Never = 9.2% 2. If you could tell auto manufacturers how to redesign their cupholders, what would you say is the most important area of improvement? Durability - I need a cupholder that won't crack, stain or peel = 14.3% Size - something capable of safely securing even the tallest, thirstiest of beverages = 24.2% Adjustability - something flexible enough to accommodate the beverage spectrum, from a 1.5 liter water bottle to a "short" latte = 39.5% Number - two simply isn't enough = 4.4% Location, location, location - my car's cupholders are NOT in a good place for convenient, safe sipping and driving = 17.6% 3. How important are cupholders to you? Specifically, what would you be willing to do to get the perfect cupholders? I would pay up to $80 extra = 24.4% I would look for a different make or model of vehicle = 26.7% Nothing - I hate to admit it, but cupholders just aren't that important to me = 48.9% 4. Name other ways you utilize your cupholder Cell phone holder = 75.3% Map holder = 5.9% Storage place for my company parking card = 7.1% Dried coffee and crumbs museum = 11.8% 5. The nation's food giants are currently packaging a range of portable foods to fit into cupholders (soups, snack chips, etc.). Do you think this trend toward more 'meals behind the wheel' poses a safety threat? Yes, it's a very serious concern - common sense dictates that drivers' full concentration should be on the road = 34.8% Yes, it's potentially a concern - I'd like to see some studies done on the relationship between driving while eating/drinking and accident rates = 32.6% No, it's not a concern - any reasonably skilled driver should be able to eat/drink and drive without compromising safety = 32.6% 6. What do you like least about your current cupholders? Shallow - they're not deep enough to keep my tall drinks from spilling = 40.7% Narrow - a 64 oz. Big Gulp would need a shoehorn and a prayer to squeeze in = 29.1% Width - my more slender cups and bottles bounce around like a 4 year-old on a trampoline = 13.95% Awkward position - I'm forced to strike an advanced yoga position every time I reach for my morning cup of coffee = 16.3% 7. If you drive an Asian car (e.g., Japanese, Korean, etc.) how satisfied are you with your cupholders (number, placement, size)? Extremely satisfied = 10.8% Satisfied = 29.7% No opinion = 35.1% Not happy = 17.6% Extremely dissatisfied (a pox on my cupholders!) = 6.8% 8. If you drive an European car (e.g., German, British, Italian, etc.) how satisfied are you with your cupholders (number, placement, size)? Extremely satisfied = 3.4% Satisfied = 17.2%% No opinion = 53.4% Not happy = 17.2% Extremely dissatisfied (a pox on my cupholders!) = 8.6% 9. If you drive an American car, how satisfied are you with your cupholders (number, placement, size)?
