Description:
Andy Roddick Described by Sports Illustrated as "the brightest US tennis prospect to rush the net in years," 19-year-old Andy Roddick is currently the twelfth-ranked player in the world and was named to America's 2002 US Davis Cup Team. Following a storied youth tennis career, Roddick cemented his reputation as "the future of American tennis" in 2001, advancing to the quarterfinals of the US Open Tournament and winning the Legg Mason Tennis Classic in Washington, DC. He also made it to the third round of Wimbledon, before falling to eventual champion Goran Ivanisevic, and to the third round of the French Open.

In perhaps the most impressive performance of his young career, Roddick completely dominated Pete Sampras at the 2001 Ericsson Open in Miami, overpowering arguably the sport's all-time greatest player with blistering 140 mph serves and jaw-dropping athleticism. Earlier this year, he became the first teenager to win the Kroger St. Jude Tournament since Andre Agassi accomplished the feat in 1988. With back-to-back titles in his first clay court events in Atlanta and Houston, Roddick won his first ATP title in only his 10th tournament -- quicker than previous U.S. tennis wunderkinds Agassi, Sampras, Michael Chang and Jim Courier.
