New Car News 2003 Lincoln Aviator to Debut at the New York Auto Show The 2003 Lincoln Aviator – one of three new Lincoln vehicles that will be available this summer – will be unveiled at the 2002 New York Auto Show. The other new Lincolns are the 2003 Town Car, which was unveiled in November 2001, and the 2003 Navigator. The all-new 2003 Lincoln Aviator will be a sport utility vehicle built on a 113.7-inch wheelbase with flexible seating for up to seven adults. Chevy Express/GMC Savana Full-Size Vans Redesigned For 2003 The new 2003 Chevy Express and GMC Savana full-size van lineup will feature an all-new look, upgraded powertrains and enhanced safety and reliability - plus new features designed to deliver more for the commercial user. Improvements include left-hand-side 60/40 entry/load door availability, and side access panels on Express Access and Savana Pro models. Acura Announces Pricing for 2003 3.2 CL Luxury Performance Coupe Acura today announced pricing for the 2003 3.2 CL luxury performance coupe. The 3.2 CL comes in two models; the 3.2 CL, priced at $28,200, and the CL Type-S, priced at $30,550 and now available with an all-new, close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission. The only factory option available is the Acura Satellite-Linked Navigation System, priced at $2,150. 2003 prices reflect a 0.7 percent increase compared to last year, based on a sales-weighted average. Both CL models go on sale March 14 at Acura dealers nationwide. Ford to Build the GT40 DEARBORN, Mich., Feb. 19, 2002 – According to Ford Motor Company Chairman and CEO Bill Ford, Ford will build the GT40 to help celebrate the automaker's 100th anniversary in 2003. Ford made the announcement to employees at the company's world headquarters. The event also marked the unveiling of the Ford brand's new "No Boundaries" ad campaign. GT40, the modern version of the historic, two-seat supercar, will help breathe new excitement into the Ford brand and support Ford Motor Company's promise of 20 new or freshened products each year. "Our revitalization plan is centered on products," said Ford. "The company that builds and delivers the best cars and trucks wins, and we're going to win. I can't think of a better symbol of that winning attitude than GT40." Blue Sky Motor News Honda Civic Hybrid Earns 51 MPG EPA Highway Rating, Five-speed Model Priced at $19,550 The all-new 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid has earned EPA city/highway fuel economy ratings of 46/51 mpg with a 5-speed manual transmission. It will have a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $19,550, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. announced today. Civic Hybrid models will begin reaching dealerships the week of March 25. The Civic Hybrid will also be available with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), with a MSRP of $20,550. The Hybrid CVT has earned EPA City/Highway ratings of 48/47 mpg. Both models will have a range of more than 600 miles. FORD to Unveil Hybrid Fuel Cell Focus FCV Ford Motor Company will debut an all-new, highly efficient, zero-emissions Ford Focus at this year’s New York International Auto Show. According to Ford, the new Ford Focus Fuel Cell Vehicle (FCV) is the company’s most advanced environmental vehicle ever. It also is one of the industry’s first “hybridized fuel cell vehicles” – which combines the improved range and performance of hybrid technology with the overall benefits of a fuel cell. Ford will begin building the Focus FCV in 2004. Chrysler Group Experiments with Recycling Project An innovative recycling technology that turns plastic into car parts could potentially save the automobile industry $320 million per year. The CARE Car II is the second phase of the Chrysler group's CARE (Concepts for Advanced Recycling and Environmental) Car demonstration program. The goals of the program are to increase the recyclability and recovery of automobiles to about 95 percent by weight and increase the use of recycled materials in production vehicles. About 95 percent of all automobiles are recycled. However, recycling is generally limited to the 75 percent by weight of the vehicle that is metallic. The remaining 25 percent is currently disposed in landfills. Honda Vehicles Earn Top Rankings in 2002 ACEEE Green Book Torrance, Calif. 02/05/2002 -- For the third consecutive year, the Honda Insight has been recognized by the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE) as the "Greenest Vehicle" in its annual ACEEE's Green Book: The Environmental Guide to Cars and Trucks - Model Year 2002. ACEEE evaluates vehicles on the basis of fuel economy, emissions and overall environmental impact. The natural gas powered Civic GX tied for the second best score on the Greenest Vehicles of 2002 evaluation, while the Civic HX coupe placed among the top five - and was the best scoring non-hybrid, gasoline-powered vehicle on the list.
