Description: Focus your attention on the all-new 2002 SVT three-door hatchback joining the popular Ford Focus line-up this summer. Designed by the Special Vehicle Team (hence the name SVT) at Ford and featuring enhanced performance with a wider and even more striking stance at an affordable base price of about $18,000. The exterior receives a redesigned front and rear fascia, rocker moldings, a liftgate mounted rear spoiler, and the upper and lower front grilles and rear valence grille are done in a black honeycomb design. The smoked glass headlights, SVT-signature crystalline round fog lamps, larger chrome tipped exhaust pipe and 17-inch wheels complete the picture. Sonic Blue, Infra-Red, CD Silver and Pitch Black are the bold exterior colors for the SVT Focus. The interior didn’t escape notice either with the addition of metallic pedal covers and a metallic dead pedal, and a black leather-wrapped steering wheel, parking brake and shift knob. And let’s not forget the six-way adjustable front extra-padded seats that recline, manually move forward and back, and have a power up and down feature. The rear seat is a 60/40 split with a folding back, flip-up cushion, with head restraints in all three seating positions. All the seats receive a black leather trim with either red or blue cloth inserts. Features unique to the SVT include oil pressure and temperature gauges and steering column controls for volume, radio stations and CD changing. Under the hood the 16-valve Zetec I-4 engine receives a dual-stage intake (DSI) manifold, variable cam timing added to the intake camshaft, and a Getrag close-ratio six-speed manual transaxle to deliver 170 horsepower and 145 ft.-lb. of torque. The engine also is fitted with a dual-mass flywheel (the first ever used on a Ford product in North America) to improve engine vibration and enhance transmission shift feel. The sharp precise handling is due to a refined suspension and the larger four-wheel disc brakes combined with an anti-lock brake system gives the Focus its precision stopping ability. The SVT is loaded with standard features including: front and side airbags, an anti-theft system, tilt/telescoping steering wheel, dual remote control outside heated mirrors, power windows, door locks and deck release, remote illuminated keyless entry, rear window defroster, air conditioning, cruise control and an AM/FM stereo with single-disc CD player. Options include a power sunroof, premium 6-disc in-dash Audiophile stereo system and a winter package that includes traction control and heated seats.
