Description: Remembering everything you want to look for during the test drive can be a challenge-especially if you are really excited about getting a new car. Print out this checklist to make sure you don't forget anything. Use the seat and steering wheel adjustments to make sure you're comfortable before you start driving. Can you see the all the gauges clearly when the steering wheel is in your ideal position? Note the position of convenience items such as cupholders and storage compartments. Do they interfere with other controls, such as the shifter or climate settings? Are the dashboard controls for climate, stereo and other functions intuitive? Check for physical obstructions (such as a seat headrest) that may reduce your visibility when looking in the rearview mirror or when backing up. The Driving Experience Don't be intimidated by a salesperson riding along.. Drive the way you would normally drive. Assess acceleration, braking and steering response in a safe and legal manner. Security Look for special features on the remote, such as unlocking the driver's door only, a panic alarm or exterior courtesy lights. Check if the doors lock when the transmission is first engaged. Notice if the doors will automatically unlock when an occupant pulls on the interior door handle. Interior and Cargo Space Sit in all of the seats and take note of legroom and headroom. Will it accommodate your regular passengers? If you will be transporting children, find out if an integrated child safety or booster seat is available from the manufacturer. Is there adequate storage space for your largest suitcases or your weekly shopping? Can you reconfigure or manipulate the rear seating on your own to provide additional storage space? |
