It's a mid-sized sedan, it's the middle model of the Galant lineup (DE, ES, LS), it's larger than the Mitsubishi Mirage and smaller than the Diamante
- 1998 Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited--Hot Rod Jeep - The '98 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4WD with the 5.9-liter V8 engine may look like a traditional SUV, but it sounds like a hot rod. The 245 horsepower engine delivers 345 pound-feet of torque, sports car acceleration, broad smiles from the driver

Description: The 1998 Mitsubishi Montero Sport falls right in the middle of the crowded SUV market, both price- and size-wise. The Sport excels off-highway thanks to the rugged chassis and suspension components it shares with its more expensive sibling, the Montero (the use of the same name for rather distinct models is confusing). The Montero Sport has a more compact body with less front and rear overhang, so it's better suited for serious off-roading than the original Montero. We have driven the Sport on incredibly muddy off-road trails during torrential downpours and it felt very safe and stable. The tall tires and above average ground clearance are great off-road features. Most Montero Sport buyers will cover more miles of paved roads than dirt ones. The Sport handles in-town duties well. It's quite spacious and capable of hauling large objects when the back seats are folded down. The spare tire is located under the vehicle leaving the cargo area flat (with recessed tie-down hooks). There are several under-the-floor storage compartments of varying sizes. The driving position is high with lots of room in all directions. Visibility is excellent. The 1/3-2/3 split rear seat reclines and the headrests are adjustable-- perfect for napping. Our only serious complaint about the Montero Sport is the lackluster 3.0-liter, 173 horsepower V6 engine. More ponies are needed to move this 4,000 pound box without constantly downshifting. The Montero Sport is a handsome, rugged, affordably-priced SUV that provides a good blend of sport and utility. |
