Description: Entering its fourth year in the marketplace, the 1998 Dodge Stratus continues to receive rave review from owners nationwide for the best blend of performance, styling, roominess and overall fun-to-drive appeal in a mid-size sedan. The Dodge Stratus comes in two models - Dodge Stratus and Dodge Stratus ES. New for 1998, the Stratus ES has as standard a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine mated to a fully-adaptive four-speed electronic transaxle. The 2.4-liter engine was optional during the 1997 model year. In addition, the Stratus ES comes equipped with a sporty leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. "Dodge Stratus buyers demand a car that provides performance, tremendous value and bold styling in one package and that's exactly what this car delivers," said Ray Fisher, General Manager Dodge Division. In total, the Stratus lineup features three responsive multi-valve engines in two trim levels and a choice of three powertrains: a 132-horsepower 2.0-liter, 16-valve SOHC four-cylinder engine with a five-speed manual transaxle; a 150-hp 2.4-liter, 16-valve DOHC four-cylinder engine with a fully-adaptive four-speed electronic transaxle; and a 168-hp 2.5-liter, 24-,valve SOHC V-6 engine mated to a foul-speed automatic with AutoStick. AutoStick offers the performance-oriented driving experience of a manual without sacrificing the convenience of an automatic. Once in the manual mode, changing gears is done by simply flicking the shift lever. AutoStick is standard on every V-6 equipped Dodge Stratus ES. A modified double-wishbone suspension and power-assisted steering enhance the firm, responsive handling that keeps the car stable yet nimble through twists and turns. For the third year in a row, Car and Driver named Dodge Stratus to its prestigious "Ten Best" list and called it, along with the Chrysler Cirrus and Plymouth Breeze, "the most advanced implementation of Chrysler's cab-forward design ethic. More accolades came from the J.D. Power APEAL study. The study, based on owners' comments, ranked Stratus as the most appealing mid-size car in its class. Safety features for 1998 include next-generation driver and front-passenger air bags, side-guard door beams, available anti-lock brakes, front seat height adjustable shoulder belts and an optional personal security package. New colors for 1998 include Deep Cranberry, Alpine Green, Bright Platinum, Champagne Pearl and Deep Slate. |
