Description: Since its introduction in late 1993, truck buyers have purchased Dodge Ram in record members, selecting it for its power, capability and bold design. With the introduction of the 1998 Dodge Ram, truck shoppers will have yet another reason to buy one. Make that two more reasons. The new 1998 Ram Quad Cab is the first full-size pickup to offer dual access doors to the rear seat. The Ram Quad Cab provides unmatched access, functionality and capability for full size pickup truck buyers looking to do more with their pickup. The rear-hinged access design requires no pillar, creating a large single opening for easy passenger access and cargo loading from either side of the cab. Front passenger shoulder belts are integrated with the seat on all extended cabs, providing rear seat access without the obstruction of a roof-mounted belt. Door handles are integrated with the front interior face of the rear door, providing a dual locking system for all four doors when the front doors are locked. "Like its predecessor, the 'new Ram addresses the needs of an increasingly demanding full-size pickup market, one that puts as much emphasis on the usefulness of the cab as it does on the work capability of.the truck," said Bernard Robertson, Vice President and General Manager, Jeeps & Truck Operations. "With the 1994 Ram, we built a vehicle that not only emphasized power and capability, but customer comfort and convenience. The new Ram Quad Cab takes the "comfort and convenience" factor to the next level, offering the most easy-to-get-into, easy-to-load, fun-to-drive full-size pickup truck in the market." While access To the new Ram may be the most obvious enhancement, the most ergonomically friendly interior in the full-size segment has been further improved with an all-new instrument panel on all Ram models. In addition to an improved, more ergonomic panel, a passenger-side airbag has been added, along with a new steering wheel. All Ram models will be equipped with a passenger air bag disable switch. Additional new comfort and safety features include heated power mirrors, illuminated power door lock and window switches, and an optional security alarm. "In the process of making the Ram easier to get into, we realized that there were ways to make the interior safer and more user-friendly," Robertson said. "The new instrument panel is easier to reach and more modern looking. And new alarm, lighting and heating features are designed to make the vehicle more appealing to personal-use truck buyers." New forged aluminum wheels (on the 1500 and 2500 series) and body-side moldings have exterior appearance, which will feature three new colors: Deep Amethyst, Forest Green and Intense Blue. The wide choice of powertrains remains the same on the 1998 Ram, although the 5.9L V-8 engine now offers an improved 245 horsepower (from 235) and 335 ft. Ibs. of torque (from 330). In addition, the 8.0L V-10 and Cummins Diesel will be available on the 2500 SWB Club and Quad Cab models. Chassis improvements include improved standard rear-wheel anti-lock brake diagnostics and the next generation of four-wheel ABS (optional). Interior noise is reduced through engineered structural improvements and added acoustic materials. The 1998 Ram Quad Cab will go on sale in the Fall of 1997. Pricing will be released at that time. |
